She's back! Bathabile Dlamini heads up social housing board
Former Social Development minister Bathabili Dlamini has been appointed the chairperson of the Social Housing Regulatory Authority interim board which is in charge of a housing project with a R 1 billion budget.
Bongani Bingwa chats to Human Settlements, Water and Sanitation spokesperson Makhosini Mgitywa to give more insight on Dlamini's appointment.
The minister is of the view that social housing must be regulated in line and in cooperation with social development because there is a lot of fraud and cheating that takes place. Social development knows who is indigent and who qualifies for what.Makhosini Mgitywa, Spokesperson - Human Settlements, Water and Sanitation
Minister Lindiwe Sisulu wanted to leverage Dlamini's background in social development hence she was hired to head the Social Housing Regulatory Authority, Mgitywa explains.
Dlamini remains a member of the National Executive Committee of the African National Congress and she is the president of the Women's League and we have to accept the fact that there is a deployment committee of the party that decides who can go where.Makhosini Mgitywa, Spokesperson - Human Settlements, Water and Sanitation
Sisulu works on the principle that Dlamini was a minister of social development and has institutional memory she needs for social housing.Makhosini Mgitywa, Spokesperson - Human Settlements, Water and Sanitation
