The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Co-operative Governance says it has deployed officials on the ground to assist families affected by a series of tornadoes and storms in the province.
Eyewitness News (EWN) reporter Nkosikhona Duma says local government has started mop-up operations and temporary shelter has been provided.
Duma says many families are being housed in churches and community halls.

The extent of the damage is still unknown.
