Kwame Nkrumah Pan-African Centre president Samia Nkrumah will deliver the 2019 Chief Albert Luthuli Lecture on Saturday .
She speaks to Bongani Bingwa about the lecture and what Pan-African should mean to society.
Pan-Africanism, as defined by Kwame Nkrumah, was the total liberation and unification of Africa and Africans everywhere.— Samia Nkrumah, President - Kwame Nkrumah Pan-African Center
She says she is excited to be giving the lecture in Durban on Saturday as it gives her the opportunity to connect with many South Africans.
Leaders like Chief Albert Luthuli, Kwame Nkrumah fought for us so that we can have the courage to complete our independence with unity. It should be every African's mission to make sure that we unite and political unity is the way forward.— Samia Nkrumah, President - Kwame Nkrumah Pan-African Center
Nkrumah says her lecture will focus on how Africans can attain political unity.
If you look at the big countries that have united over the years, there were political decisions that bound the people. Before they became powerful nations, a political decision was made. The unity we must talk about is the unity of African states.— Samia Nkrumah, President - Kwame Nkrumah Pan-African Center
Many economic decisions for integration, can only be pushed if there is a political consensus behind them, she explains.
