Drink alcohol with lower calories this festive season, advises dietitian

Dietitian and author of Eat Ting Mpho Tshukudu recommends gin, wine and brandy if you don't want to gain weight.

The festive season is time to frequent the gym as it will not be full, advises Dietitian Mpho Tshukudu.

The season comes with lots of parties and celebrations but that shouldn't deter your gym schedule.

Azania Mosaka speaks to dietitian and author of Eat Ting Mpho Tshukudu about the dos and don'ts of the festive season.

If you have kids get them away from the screens and take them outside to play soccer or do some outdoor activities.

She advises that one should stay away from ciders and cocktails as they have too much sugar.

If you drinking alcohol choose alcohol with lower calories, things like wine brandy and gin are lower in calories but higher in alcohol.

With wine, it is not looked down to mix it with sparkling water and always ask for water in-between your drinks.

Tshukudu says before you go for your second plate of serving, take some time to digest.

It takes up about 20 minutes for your brain to register that you are full.
