I don't think, realistically, anyone can contest Malema - Ralph Mathekga

Political analyst Ralph Mathekga says it's is difficult to imagine Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) without Julius Malema and that, realistically, no one can contest him.

Mathekga shared his views on the Xolani Gwala Show as the party's second elective conference starts at Nasrec.

He says there is a sense that there is no 'openness' in the party.

It is very difficult to imagine the EFF without Mr Malema and where the party is now, the environment is such that I don't think, realistically, anyone can contest him.

Ralph Mathekga, Political analyst

Does it have to do with his political argument, the idea that he is outspoken, almost a natural leader as some people see him? Maybe it is that

Ralph Mathekga, Political analyst

Mathekga says the party has done well over the past six years.

They have done very well, they have been disruptive. The question is: Where to from now? Are they going to be stagnant or is there an opportunity for growth?

Ralph Mathekga, Political analyst

They can become the main opposition party but it requires very risky adjustment on their side.
