As holidaymakers return home, they can expect roadblocks across the province says Gauteng traffic police spokesperson Obed Sibasa.

Holidaymakers will be returning home en masse in the coming days and the Gauteng traffic police say the province is ready for the spike in traffic volumes.

Spokesperson Obed Sibasa lists speeding and drunk driving as among the major problems they usually encounter from motorists at this time of year.

He says drivers can expect inter-provincial, provincial and local roadblocks on highways in and around Gauteng.

In the past we didn't involve other provinces in terms of dealing with traffic issues, but today we have improved and realised that we are not going to reach our objective of reducing fatalities by 50% if we are not going to work as a collective.
