Wits University mathematics lecturer Dr Jacques du Plessis says teachers are racing against time in the classroom.

Umalusi is calling for detailed research to be conducted to explain why Grade 12 pupils continue to struggle in mathematics.

The exam quality assurance body approved the release of the 2019 national results after conducting successful quality assurances.

The class of 2017 saw a pass rate of 51.9% with a total of 127,197 pupils achieving a pass in maths.

Clement Manyathela speaks to Wits University mathematics lecturer Dr Jacques du Plessis.

RELATED: IEB 2019 pass rate declines slightly to 98.82%

Dr Jacques du Plessis, Mathematics lecturer - Wits University

Dr Jacques du Plessis, Mathematics lecturer - Wits University
