Professor Kobus Maree from the University of Pretoria says people must work on their vocabulary and remove all negative words.

The class of 2019 have started receiving their matric results, with the Independent Examination Board (IEB) announcing on Tuesday that it had received a pass rate of 98.82%.

The results for the National Senior Certificate will be released on Wednesday 8 January.

Professor Kobus Maree from the University of Pretoria's Department of educational psychology says it is not the end of the road for those who did not receive good results.

He cautions against the use of negative language on those who did not do very well.

Professor Maree gives advice on the matriculants can do going forward.

  • They can rewrite their matric exams or apply for a remark.
  • Get solid career counselling to map the way forward.
  • Everybody must clarify short, medium and long term goals.
