Gauteng DA refutes ANC claims that it has fired Tshwane mayor Stevens Mokgalapa
The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Gauteng has refuted tweets by the African National Congress (ANC) in Tshwane that it has fired Mayor Stevens Mokgalapa.
In December, the council removed council Speaker Katlego Mathebe and Mayor Stevens Mokgalapa through motions of no confidence. However, the DA challenged all resolutions taken in that sitting, saying it was illegal.
Ray White speaks to Eyewitness News reporter Edwin Ntshidi on the latest update from the capital.
DA has fired Mokgalapa:— Kgoši Maepa (@kgosi_maepa) January 9, 2020
We just received information from internal DA sources "White Caucus" that Mokgalapa has been fired. Madam Helen Zille demands that his membership be terminated. The DA is ruthless, especially to its Black leaders, but it's none of our business!@MYANC
I have just been on the line with DA Gauteng leader John Moodey who says that tweet by Kgoši Maepa is fake news.Edwin Ntshidi, Reporter - Eyewitness News
He says processes are well underway and they have established a committee that is dealing with Mokgalapa's issue. So, in short, he is saying that is completely wrong.Edwin Ntshidi, Reporter - Eyewitness News
Ntshidi says speaker Katlego Mathebe says she might be opening a criminal case for the fraudulent act allegedly committed by the opposition parties.
Late yesterday in the afternoon we got a statement from the speaker's office saying of the 114 signatures from ANC and the EFF submitted to her office, seven of them appeared to the fake and she has ordered a forensic probe in that matter.Edwin Ntshidi, Reporter - Eyewitness News
