Workers say Lily mine never informed them of two underground escape routes

The co-workers of the three mine workers who have been trapped underground for more than two years at the Lily Mine in Mpumalanga say since going back to work they have discovered two escape routes which they were never informed about.

The miners were trapped before surface after a cave in at the Mine in 2016.

Efforts to rescue them at the time failed and the mine suspended recovery efforts.

Last month family members and co-workers started going underground in an an operation to finally recover the bodies.

Eyewitness News reporter Edwin Ntshidi has more on the story.

What they are basically saying is since they went underground they have now discovered there were two escape routes which the mine never informed them about. They have sent me pictures to see for myself to say that from level three to level four there were two escape route but that was never disclosed.

They are saying they can hardly get hold of the management and say they have tried several times.
