Wits students and campus security in stone throwing exchange

Wits students are currently meeting at Solomon Mahlangu House at Great Hall to discuss the way forward, after a confrontation with security guards.

According to EWN reporter, Clement Manyathela, the security guards were preventing students from entering the Great Hall.

The university obtained a court order to prevent students from gathering on campus, disrupting lecturers, and meeting at Solomon Mahlangu House.

Students then allegedly started pelting stones at security guards demanding to be let in to the Great Hall to hold the meeting.

Security guards allegedly threw stones back and used stun grenades on students.

Manyathela says some of the journalists and students were injured, and windows and doors were also broken.

Earlier today 31 students were arrested for blocking university entrances and disrupting lectures.
