Gauteng Department of Education to open for late applications

The Gauteng Department of Education will be opening for late registrations on Wednesday.

Parents will be allowed to apply for their children until January 24 and the learners will be placed in various schools by January 31.

Gauteng MEC for Education Panyaza Lesufi says it is unfortunate that some parents want to apply for schools now.

Speaking to Nicklaus Bauer, Lesufi says this burdens the system.

It burdens the system because we need to get extra teachers, extra textbooks, furniture etc.

Lesufi says those who applied in time have been placed in various schools.

Of all the parents that have applied for places in our schools, especially grade one, and grade eight, we have placed all those learners.

Panyaza Lesufi, Education MEC - Gauteng

What has transpired is that some schools were full so therefore we placed parents at alternative schools and that is where we had a glitch. Parents were not happy that we provided alternative schools.
