Saccawu to oppose Massmart retrenchments
The South African Commercial, Catering and Allied Workers Union (Saccawu) says it is ready to fight for their members to retain their jobs at 34 Dion-Wired Masscash stores.
Retail giant Massmart announced it is to close outlets, citing their underperformance.
Saccawu's national organising campaign's collective bargaining unit head Khulekani Ngubane tells Nickolaus Bauer that they were ambush by the retailer.
They have not yet initiated anything. They just ambushed us as of yesterday, strategically sending an email via Naidoo who is an employee relations head of department at Massdiscounters.Khulekani Ngubane, National organising campaign's collective bargaining unit head - Saccawu
We wish as a trade union to declare that our existence depends on members and as a trade union we must fight tooth and nail in opposing such massive retrenchments.Khulekani Ngubane, National organising campaign's collective bargaining unit head - Saccawu
