Wits University Caxton journalism professor Anton Harber and Thandeka Gqubule have won their defamation case against the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) after making statements that the two were apartheid-era Stratcom spies.
The two approached the courts to force the red berets to retract the statement they made during the time of Winnie Madikizela-Mandela's documentary and they want R1 million in damages.
Clement Manyathela chats to Harber to weigh in on the matter.
I am very pleased by the ruling as it defends our names and it defends journalism from attacks of this sort. It is a victory for truth and for the attempt to stop public figures from making unsubstantiated and defamatory statements.— Anton Harber, Caxton Professor of Journalism - Wits University
He says the EFF has been asked to apologise and publish the apology on all the EFF's platforms and to pay the two damages.
