The South African Union of Students is calling for a national shutdown of all public universities.
The call comes after numerous attempts by the union to engage with the Department of Higher Education.
Clement Manyathela on the Midday Report chats to union's secretary-general Lwandile Mtsolo to share their concerns.
We have sent a list of 15 demands to the Minister of Higher Education Blade Nzimande, focusing on registration issues that he would be able to assist and cater for poor students from impoverished backgrounds.— Lwandile Mtsolo, Secretary-general - South African Union of Students
He says the responses received from the department were unsatisfactory and rejected by different Student Representative Councils.
