At what stage should you be negotiating your salary package and should you open up the conversation at the start of your new job?
Talent strategist and leadership coach Anja van Beek says its best to wait on your employer to initiate the discussion.
Van Beek joined Eusebius McKaiser in studio to discuss how best to go about negotiating a salary that you think you deserve.
Van Beek says it's important to do your research when the time comes. She suggests a few steps you should take.
Depending on if it is a new role or something you have done before, go and do some research. The first thing I would recommend is perhaps going onto payscale, it is a global company - they have compensation software and data. They can give you an estimate.— Anja van Beek, Talent strategist and leadership coach
Another example might be to go and search on job boards - that is where they usually advertise roles - so you can have a look at what the average company is paying for that specific role you have applied for.— Anja van Beek, Talent strategist and leadership coach
You need to be very prepared on what is it that the market salary is about.— Anja van Beek, Talent strategist and leadership coach
