The Gauteng Health Department has initiated a probe into the recruitment process at the George Mukhari Hospital in Tshwane, following allegations of corruption.
The issue of impropriety and of irregularities was brought to the attention of MEC Bandile Masuku by the South African National Civic Organisation and other stakeholders.
Department spokesperson Kwara Kekana says a human resources team has been appointed to investigate the matter.
It is centred around potentially corrupt activities involved in the recruitment and selection process but I can't go into the details of the investigation.— Kwara Kekana, Spokesperson - Gauteng Health Department
Unfortunately the idea was to appoint people quite quickly, so it does I think affect in terms of where staff morale is concerned. What is important for us is that we acted quite swiftly, the investigation is underway and the intention from the department is to finish this quite quickly so as to not further delay whatever is needed in the hospital.— Kwara Kekana, Spokesperson - Gauteng Health Department
