Former Democratic Alliance (DA) youth leader and current member of the KwaZulu-Natal legislature Mbali Ntuli has confirmed her intention to run for the party's top leadership position, saying she is the best person for the job.
Ntuli officially announced her candidacy at a briefing on Friday.
She will go against interim leader John Steenhuisen, John Moodey and Bonginkosi Madikizela when the party holds its elective conference in May.
Ntuli spoke to Clement Manyathela to share her vision and hopes for the party.
I am running because I want to make the DA kind and strong and fair. I think if we can show South Africans the kind of people that we actually have in the DA, then they would see the DA in the way that I see it, which is a group of people who are really trying to do their best to serve people in this country.— Mbali Ntuli, Former DA youth leader
I think the DA definitely still has the machinery and is the vehicle to take South Africa forward but that is why we have to change our leadership, our leadership has been part of the problem.— Mbali Ntuli, Former DA youth leader
