Former Old Mutual CEO Peter Moyo has filed an urgent application at the Johannesburg High Court to prevent the company from appointing a permanent CEO.
Moyo's attorney, Eric Mabuza says they wrote to Old Mutual in early February instructing them to stop the process because an application to appeal suspended the ruling which confirmed that the company did not have to reinstate him.
In January, we filed the application for leave to appeal formally with Old Mutual. On the 5th of February, we wrote to Old Mutual to say please stop this process because you know that an application for leave to appeal suspends the judgment.— Eric Mabuza, Peter Moyo's lawyer
This whole application is completely unnecessary because everyone knows an application for leave to appeal suspends a judgment.— Eric Mabuza, Peter Moyo's lawyer
Mabuza says this is further contempt of the court.
It's still not late for Old Mutual, they can still pull back from this unlawful act and await the appeal process.— Eric Mabuza, Peter Moyo's lawyer
