Resign or we will block the budget – Lesotho opposition tells Thabane

LESOTHO - The All Basotho Convention (ABC)’s national executive committee (NEC) on Wednesday said it had given the party leader and Lesotho Prime Minister Tom Thabane's until Thursday to step down before Parliament opens Friday.

Thabane has announced twice that he will retire with no time specified.

But factions of the ABC, who reconciled in an attempt to nominate his successor, have failed to unite behind one candidate.

The opposition has threatened to block the budget due for tabling soon if Thabane returns to the House.

Party spokesperson Montoeli Masoetsa said Thabane must go to save the party embarrassment.
