Sunday Independent journalist Piet Rampedi has been given 24 hours by investigative journalist Jacques Pauw to remove 'offending' statements made on social media.
On Tuesday, Rampedi said Pauw was a racist, molester and a liar on Twitter and Facebook.
Clement Manyathela speaks to Jacques Pauw about Rampedi's social media posts.
He didn't just call me a molester, he called me paedophile that molested boys in Mozambique in early 2000. I don't think you can call someone anything worse than a paedophile.— Jacques Pauw, Investigative journalist and author
We determined that Rampedi should apologise and retract these tweets. He hasn't produced a shred of evidence.— Jacques Pauw, Investigative journalist and author
Rampedi's lawyer Eric Mabuza says they are in contact with their client and they will respond in due time.
This is our response to Jacques Pauw's "cease and desist" letter, for now. We will respond fully to @Jaqqs's claims and threats after further legal consultants at the weekend. We remain combat ready. pic.twitter.com/RGOiyFjm1q— Mr Putin (@pietrampedi) February 20, 2020
We've just had a brief meeting with Rampedi this morning. We asked him to collate all the evidence from 2014 in relation to Mr Pauw.— Eric Mabuza, Lawyer representing Piet Rampedi
We have already told Mr Pauw we will get back to them when we have all the merits. If the deadline lapses, so be it.— Eric Mabuza, Lawyer representing Piet Rampedi
