'Treasury is going to have meeting with Stats SA Council on freezing of posts'

The South African Statistics Council, an advisory body that endorses the releases of data by Stats SA, has threatened to resign as a measure of last resort if the national statistical agency does not receive more funding and fill frozen posts.

Last week 702Breakfast spoke to former statistician-general Dr Pali Lehohla about the state that the council finds itself in.

The current statitician-general knows that we have not ignored the warnings. In the current economic climate, Stats SA is one of the few departments in government that has received some funding. Many other departments have received decreases in funding. Treasury is going to discuss with Stats SA council on the freezing of posts.
