Lesotho Prime Minister Tom Thabane has finally appeared in the Maseru Magistrates Court after failing to appear last week.
It was reported that he was receiving emergency medical attention in South Africa.
Thabane and his wife Maesiah are accused of involvement in the killing of his estranged wife Lipolelo Thabane in 2017.
Eyewitness News (EWN) reporter Nthakoana Ngatane says police confirmed that a doctor's note issued to Thabane was not done in person but over the telephone, prompting him to appear.
Police said they had to speak to three other doctors to determine whether that action was in fact allowed and the three doctors unanimously said no...any person cannot be issued with a sick note when the doctor has not physically examined such a person.— Nthakoana Ngatane, Reporter - EWN
Police rejected that sick note, then told Tom Thabane's lawyer that if he does not appear then they will have to take other legal processes in order for this matter to proceed.— Nthakoana Ngatane, Reporter - EWN
