Commission for Gender Equality (CGE) report released on Monday says there is forced and coerced sterilisation in public hospitals.
Bongani Bingwa speaks Hopeville Foundation Support Group founder Bongekile Msibi and Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) president Dr Kgosi Letlape to weigh in on the report.
I learnt that I didn't have a uterus when I tried to conceive in 2016 and it came as a shock as I was not aware of such.— Bongekile Msibi, Founder - Hopeville Foundation Support Group
She says no doctor could give her an explanation as to why her uterus was removed.
What is frustrating is that I am not the only one as there are many other people that are going through the same thing. Some people don't have the strength to carry on.— Bongekile Msibi, Founder - Hopeville Foundation Support Group
These forced sterilisations make one ashamed to be a health professional, Letlapa explains.
As the HPCSA, recommendations have been made in relation to the report and we will ensure that those are implemented.— Dr Kgosi Letlape, President - HPCSA
