Residents of Soweto are holding a protest over the ongoing power cuts by Eskom.
Soweto electricity crisis committee is challenging the R18 billion electricity bill from Eskom, which led to the power utility cutting off supply to various parts of Soweto due to non-payment.
The organisers of the shutdown had called on residents to abstain from work and take to the streets, wearing black clothing.
Police and other law-enforcement agencies are keeping an eye on the situation.
