The Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) has warned of heavy traffic as the Ultra Music Festival takes place at the Nasrec Expo Centre and the Soweto Derby kicks off at the FNB Stadium on Saturday.
JMPD spokesperson Wayne Minnaar says they are prepared to deal with the traffic flow.
We have got officers out where we will be closing the Soweto highway...— Wayne Minnaar, Spokesperson - JMPD
We want to encourage people going to the Ultra Music Festival to use the N1 bend and go off at Nasrec and Rand Show road instead of trying to make their way past the stadium.— Wayne Minnaar, Spokesperson - JMPD
Coming out, there is likely to be heavy traffic because the fans from the stadium will be coming out at approximately half past five and six o'clock and that is when the main event is at the music festival.— Wayne Minnaar, Spokesperson - JMPD
On issues of safety, Minnaar says there are plans in place to deploy officers near the Sasol filling station, particularly for those using e-hailing services.
We will be having at least two nyalas and a huge contingent of officers on duty in that vicinity to monitor that area.— Wayne Minnaar, Spokesperson - JMPD
