The growth in COVID-19 coronavirus cases has been explosive - Dr Mkhize

Minister of Health Zweli Mkhize has announced four new cases in Gauteng.

Mkhize says now the COVID-19 coronavirus tally has increased to 72.

Gauteng - An additional 7 cases Western Cape - An additional 2 cases Limpopo - 1 person (this person is a doctor who had visited Europe) Mpumalanga - 1 person (another medical professional)

During the interministerial briefing on Monday, Minister Mkhize says they are busy verifying internal transmission cases.

The growth in cases has been explosive. We went from 1 to 51 in 10 days.

The government is also speaking to private hospitals about availing their facilities. The number of hospitals that will treat coronavirus are no longer enough. Government is adding district hospitals to the list.

Mkhize says once the infection starts to spread in taxis, trains and informal settlements it will require dynamic and additional quarantine sites.
