IEC to approach courts for by-election postponements

The Electoral Commission (IEC) will approach the electoral court to postpone by-elections scheduled from 18 March as part of its measures to contain the coronavirus.

IEC chief electoral officer Sy Mamobolo says they will be filing papers with the electoral court on Tuesday.

We are busy drafting an application, the intention really is to ask the court for a postponement beyond the 90 day period.
