Innovative app to help healthcare workers respond to COVID-19

Nonprofit organisation Gift of the Givers has embarked on a mission to raise funds to assist South African medical professionals and hospitals in their efforts to respond to the expected rise in Covid-19 cases, with the help of the Vula Mobile App that will help direct resources to where they are needed most.

Vula's function is to enable seamless communication between healthcare workers.

Joanne Joseph spoke to the brainchild behind the app, Dr William Mapham, and Gift of the Givers director Imtiaz Sooliman to find out more about how they have collaborated to help medical practitioners in this time.

He called me sometime last wee. He said: 'Look I have got an app, this app has 11,000 medical professionals on it'... So immediately 11,000 medical practitioners are on the ground to respond quite rapidly to the NICD to say look we have got cases all over the country and in addition what is required, it's one of the tools we are using.

We of course deliver the goods on the ground.

The app is mostly used in the public sector so we are so thrilled because it is already being used out there. We are about to email all our users to say please look at the fundraising campaign and help us identify areas and needs.
