No Uber and Bolt services during lockdown - Mbalula

Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula says there will be transport arrangements for essential services in the morning and afternoon.

Minister of Transport Fikile Mbalula says the 21-day lockdown will affect all modes of transport.

President Cyril Ramphosa announced a 21-day lockdown of the country effective from midnight on 26 March until midnight on 16 April.

This is part of the measures the government is implementing to curb to spread of COVID-19.

Meanwhile, Minister of Health Dr Zweli Mkhize announced on Wednesday that the number of confirmed cases is now 709

Speaking to Eusebius McKaiser, Mbalula says there will be special catering of public transport.

We are looking at allocating time for the operation of taxis in the morning peak and in the evening.

Trains will not be operating, long-distance has been shut down in terms of Shosholoza Meyl.

Mbalula adds that all essential workers will be permitted to get to work in the morning peak and afternoon peak.

All employers will be expected to generate permits for special workers that they are permitted to work on this day during the lockdown.

This affects everybody, that includes Uber, Bolt and e-hailing systems and taxis.
