Panyaza Lesufi says 21-day lockdown is an opportunity to rehabilitate and find mechanisms of integrating them with their families.

Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi, who is the acting social development MEC, spent Thursday overseeing the process of relocating homeless people to shelters ahead of the 21-day lockdown that will be used to contain the coronavirus outbreak.

Lesufi says those that are willing will be taken to various shelters around Gauteng and that the move is an opportunity to rehabilitate the homeless.

It is to take all homeless people that want to be integrated back into society. We want to take these 21 days as an opportunity to rehabilitate them and find mechanisms of integrating them with their families, and also giving them soft skills that can allow them to survive beyond the 21 days.

Lesufi says they have also prioritised women and children during this time.

There a lot of children at risk - either child headed families or they are staying alone.
