repairing broken relationships
Clinical psychologist Hayden Knibbs explores intense desires that may surface during the lockdown, to repair relationships.

During the lockdown period, many have probably begun to reflect on past relationships and may miss past interactions with an estranged friend, partner or family member.

How do you begin to repair ruptured relationships?

Eusebius McKaiser spoke to clinical psychologist Hayden Knibbs to explore emotions adn desires that may surface during this COVID-19 pandemic, to repair relationships.

Classically, we are going to start looking at the emotional level and there there really can be a lot of pain, anger, a lot of hurt in among what we are feeling. A lot of time can shift these type of emotions....

Hayden Knibbs, Clinical psychologist

I would say the first step is to try and start processing those emotions, if you can, it would be to speak to a third party, one that can really listen, that can really empathise. If you can't, I would say write it down, even to the person. You will not send it, it is just to facilitate yourself to start actually engaging on that emotional level.

Hayden Knibbs, Clinical psychologist

Once you have processed those emotions you may sit and think: 'I don't want to reach out to this person actually, there was quite a lot of pain there,' so we want to clarify that first.
