Minister Zulu says to date they have distributed 40 841 food parcels nationwide.

Minister of Social Development Lindiwe Zulu says the number of people who are are applying food parcels during the lockdown is increasing.

Through the South African Social Security Agency's (Sassa) social relief of distress programme, the department is able to assist people in dire material need that they are unable to meet their families’ most basic needs.

Speaking to Eusebius McKaiser, Zulu says people should allow the department to plan accordingly so they do not run out of funds in the long run.

The solidarity Fund put R23 million and we added R20 million. The money I am calculating from the Solidarity Fund and the money we have is not enough.

Lindiwe Zulu, Minister - Social Development

We have 235 community development centres and we have 40 841 food parcels that have been distributed to date from the 3rd to the 10th.
