Increasing support for mob justice is worrying

Calls and smses flooded into John Robbie's show today following the story of the mob justice attack in Protea Glen, Soweto yesterday, where one person died. A lot of calls and tweets, supported the mob justice violence in Protea Glen – most feel that it encourages police to do their job.

While this is a sign of how frustrated society is and the disappointment with the police and justice system, this spread of vigilantism (and support of it) is worrying.

The center for the study of violence and reconciliation called in to confirm that no research suggests that there is a solution in violence or mob justice.

John spoke to Nomfundo Mogapi, Executive Director of the Centre for the Studies of Violence and Reconciliation.

This is a message being sent that those in power only listen to violence. It time communities use anger to engage police and hold them accountable.
