Press briefing cancelled

EWN Reporter, Barry Bateman reports about the cancelled press briefing at PRASA after CEO Lucky Montana was relieved of his duties. Montana was scheduled to have a media briefing this afternoon, but this stands to be seen as we hear that the PRASA briefing that was scheduled to take place this morning was cancelled.

Barry Bateman reports that this is fast becoming a public splat between Montana and the board.

SATAWU's Zenzo Mahlangu also reacts to the latest developments at PRASA.

Chasing the story

702 presenter John Robbie spoke to Investigative Journalist, Pieter-Louis Myburgh about the latest developments at PRASA following the axing of its CEO.

Myburgh says that Montana has been fired and spokesperson, Moffet Mofokeng was replaced and redeployed to another department in the organisation.

Myburgh is not convinced that these latest developments with the firing of their CEO have nothing to do with the locomotives.

The Sunday newspaper Rapport have been reporting extensively on Prasa’s rail recapitalisation project, on the qualifications of key personnel at the agency and other allegations aimed at Montana.

John Webb (standing in for Kieno Kammies on CapeTalk) spoke with Waldimar Pelser, Editor at the Rapport.

We'd like to think that Montana's dismissal is a vindication for our newspaper although the board has been given afflicting reasons for his early dismissal.

Prasa official speaks out

Montana, who was on a six month notice period after announcing his resignation last month, was told by the Prasa Board that he will not be required to work for the remainder of his notice period.

CapeTalk presenter John Webb spoke with Sipho Sithole, Chief Strategy Officer at Prasa.

Sithole says he is no clear on whether the dismissal was untoward or not and is as informed as the public.

According to Sithole, the Prasa board briefed their staff yesterday and have promised to give a public statement today.

We were taken by surprise by this development. We were hoping that we'd move beyond these issues but there must have been other matters that we are not aware of.

Sipho Sithole, Chief Strategy Officer at Prasa.

Sithole says it is unfortunate that the rail agency has been the centre of controversy, despite the promising projects they are working on.
