Prasa official insists that locomotive tests are standard procedure

The Group Chief Strategy Officer at the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (Prasa) Sipho Sithole says that the continued testing of the compatibility of the controversial locomotives with the South African rail lines is standard procedure.

The testing of the locomotives continues. It is normal that acquisitions of this nature are tested before they are placed on commercial lines. The outcome of the tests will be communicated to the rail safety regulator who will then make final findings in September.

Sipho Sithole, Chief Strategy Officer at Prasa.

Sithole refrained from commenting on the meeting between the Prasa board and the Transport Ministry that took place on Friday or reports of government pressure to reinstate fired CEO Lucky Montana.

He has said that despite the latest developments at the rail agency the company will ensure that operations continue to run efficiently.
