After Gauteng Police Commissioner Lesetja Mothiba announced CPFs would not be allowed to conduct visits to police stations and that he was not consulted on how that would happen, it was announced today he admitted he does not have the power to suspend the civilian oversight function of Community Policing Forums.
Chairperson of the Gauteng Community Policing Board Andy Mashaile said Mothiba told officials at a meeting on Monday night that he was not pleased with the way the Safety MEC wants CPFs to conduct oversight.
His decision related to a recent community safety meeting where new guidelines were issued for CPF members.
Mashaile said the matter has since been resolved.
