Following the Carte Blanche’s expose on rogue police officers from Edenvale, John speaks to Candice Pillay, Partner at Hogan Lovell and Director of the Police Brutality Law Clinic about the rights of the public and recourse for victims of police brutality.
This is what Pillay says you should do if you get stopped by the police:
- Stay calm (let the police do their job)
- Be vigilant
- If uncomfortable, make a note of details of the event (i.e date, place, time and sequence of events).
If you are a victim of Police Britality and need legal action or advice, get in touch with Police Brutality Law Clinic on 011 339 6080. Note that the clinic only operates on the first and third Tuesday mornings.
