Did Zuma request additional housing in Nkandla?

Yesterday on Midday Report, EWN’s Rahima Essop gave a report about the inside of President Jacob Zuma’s home – as she went through one of the structures built to house police officers on the site.

The houses have cost government R6 million each and yet seem to offer very little value. Opposition parties as part of Parliament’s Ad hoc Committee on Nkandla have slammed the construction of these structures.

In the latest development to this story, has been a letter that stipulates what the president wanted at the time to convert part of his house to add bachelor flats for security officials.

The Chairperson of Parliament’s Ad Hoc Committee on Nkandla, Cedric Frolick says shoddy workmanship, money wastage and grossly inflated construction costs characterise the spending debacle at the President’s home.

Frolick spoke to John about his impressions on the Nkandla construction project:

At the moment these is no integrated security monitoring at the residence. The President is neither safe or secure currently at the residence as it is. If we leave things exactly as it, it can be seen as fruitless expenditure or an abandoned project.
