The nine former police officers implicated in the death of Mozambican national Mido Macia have pleaded not guilty to the charges of murder, despite allegedly damning video footage, at the start of the trial in the High Court in Pretoria.
Macia died in police cells in Daveyton after allegedly being handcuffed to the back of a police van and dragged through the township streets in an incident caught on video in 2013.
EWN Reporter, Masego Rahlaga reports on the Midday Report with details from the trial.
The former officers didn't say much during the court proceedings. They only nodded their heads to indicate that they are pleading not guilty to the charges of murder. This raises lots of questions, because of the video footage of Macia's attack that went viral after he was found dead in police custody.— Masego Rahlaga, EWN Reporter
