The US Hunter who killed 'Cecil the Lion' on a legal hunt in a game park in Zimbabwe has blamed the tour guides for leading him to the well-known, tagged lion that is part of an Oxford University study.
Which has led many to wonder if the hunter feels guilty for killing a lion, or for killing a tagged lion? Sam Cowen invited Nature Conservationist, Tim Neary to find out how big of an issue game hunting really is.
While he was on the show Neary gave insight into the regulation surrounding game hunting.
There's the moral regulation and the reality, yes you are allowed to shoot things. Normally you apply for permits and then you can check how many lions have been shot on permit in South Africa ... It's in excess of 900 odd per year that get shot.— Tim Neary, Nature Conservationsit
