According to reports this morning, Gauteng Community Safety MEC Sizakele Nkosi-Malobane made comments in legislature yesterday that society had not done enough to condemn the killing of police officers – and that officers are not tough enough on criminals.
This follows the 'slaughtering' of six police officers, including a Joburg Metro police officer, in the past three months.
Speaking to Stephen Grootes on the Midday Report, Nkosi-Malobane says that the police officers are dying in the hands of criminals because they are not willing to use minimum force against the criminals. She says that this is due to the criticism they are get from acting too quickly against criminals.
She says that majority (if not all) of the police officers were killed by illegal firearms.
When police are under threat they need to decide quicker to protect themselves, using the available resources to them. We can't afford to lose an officer a day.— Sizakele Nkosi-Malobane, Gauteng Community Safety MEC
