Tiny South African aluminium company the sole supplier of vital Tesla component

Pietermaritzburg based Hulamin is a tiny producer of aluminium products.

They have only one factory that makes products used in things such as cooldrink cans, food packaging and car components.

Hulamin is the sole provider to Elon Musk’s Tesla of an integral component called a “battery box base plate”.

The Money Show’s Bruce Whitfield interviewed Darryl Wiesz, Sales Executive at Hulamin, about how they came to be the only supplier to Tesla of this vital component.

It’s quite a story how we got this gig! We’ve got a great sales team in North America that was approached by this guy wanting to make an electric car!

Darryl Wiesz, Hulamin

We’ve supplied tens of thousands of these components to a very high spec to Tesla.

Darryl Wiesz, Hulamin

Tesla have, to date, not found anyone who can match us on price and service.
