Why you should consider going to the UK to watch the Rugby World Cup 2015

Some would think that it is a major challenge enticing South Africans to visit Great Britain, given the value of the Rand against the British Pound.

International Head of Visit Britain, Paul Gauger, has a few facts and money-saving insights up his sleeve that could do just the trick.

  • All the art galleries and museums in Britain are free. Gauger says that the period over the 2015 Rugby World Cup is the nation's peak cultural season.

  • Gauger says you can save on food through pre-theatre dining specials and high tea experiences.

  • There are sea-side sights not far from London such as Brighton and Birmingham that could rival South African coasts.

  • If you can not afford tickets to the stadium games, you can attend the fan-zones and other popular pubs with locals.

  • The weather will be pleasant over the World Cup and there are several parks and gardens that are open for public access.

We've been to 22 countries across the world, and that's our job - to promote Britain. 18 million visitors come to London annually and a total of 35 million to all of Britain. South Africans love it here and spend two weeks per visit on average.

Paul Gauger, International Head of Visit Britain

The 2015 Rugby World Cup is scheduled to be the eighth world championship. The tournament will be hosted by England from 18 September to 31 October 2015. Twickenham Stadium in London will host the final.

For more information on the United Kingdom as a travel destination, go to the Visit Britain website or the Rugby World Cup website.
