'Zuma's Q&A response on the state of SA may hurt him in the long run' - Fikeni

Speaking in the National Assembly on Thursday, EFF leader Julius Malema asked President Jacob Zuma if he was satisfied with the state of affairs in South Africa.

Zuma responded by saying that the country had not gone down in his leadership, but political analyst Somadoda Fikeni says that this may have been a bad move on the President's part.

The country is developing; is moving ahead - and is fine. I do not agree that it has gone down since my leadership. The country has been governed very responsibly.

President Jacob Zuma

According to Fikeni, it is cause for concern that the President is in denial about the issues facing the country.

I think that that kind of response for a sitting president may hurt him in the long run. All the scientific indicators - whether employment or the economy - suggest that we do face quite a rough time. The only hope would be if the sitting Head of State accepts that there is a problem and if he were to take it seriously.
