Glenvista High SGB to face criminal charges over corruption findings

The Gauteng Education Department will file criminal charges against the 2012-2014 School Governing Body (SGB) of Glenvista High School.

This is following the findings of a corruption probe announced by Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi on Monday.

Lesufi revealed what he called “shocking findings” from a forensic investigation conducted by auditing firm KPMG.

The SGB allegedly benefited from the mismanagement of school funds.

The findings claim that the school was operating more than one bank account without the approval of the department.

The probe allegedly exposed an irregular investment account, nepotism, the employment of unqualified staff and the use of school funds for personal expenses.

Its shocking, I must be honest. The SGB invested school funds in a private company owned by one of its memebers. The school was funding all the principals holiday trips. The deputy principal hired his daughter as a sports coach, they had appointed unqualified teachers and were under-budgeting.

Panyaza Lesufi, Gauteng Education MEC

According to Lesufi, everyone implicated in the findings of corruption and maladministration must pay back the money.

He launched the probe after the department was approached by a whistleblower.
