There is plenty of advice in the cyber¬sphere and in book stores about how to pack better. And there’s the luggage itself... Hard or soft-sided? Four wheels, or two? And then there’s whether it’s better to roll your clothes or pack them flat. But still, we tend to leave something behind.

People with no idea about how suitcases are treated at airports swear you must pack your shoes at the “bottom”. Others will tell you to put everything into plastic bags first. And according to Intelligent Life columnist Nicola Cooper, the method of packing you choose says a lot about you!

Find out as much as you can about where you are going. Limit your luggage to one suit case and leave space for what the journey offers.
