CEO of Sibanye Gold says government must keep their politics out of mining

In the face of possible mining jobs losses, the CEO of Sibanye Gold Neal Froneman says government must keep their politics out of the mining industry.

This comes after speculation that almost 11 000 miners could lose their jobs after getting notifications from various companies.

Cautious of the repercussions, government responded by ordering mining company Glencore to suspend operations as it had allegedly not followed proper procedure in its plan to fire 380 miners.

Meanwhile, while companies and unions are still negotiating, Froneman has spoken out frankly about his frustration at what he calls government’s misunderstanding of the mining business.

I think the government continues to make political noises and rhetoric instead of coming up with concrete commercial and economic suggestions.
