Anyone who watches the American TV series Big Bang Theory knows that the characters' favourite pastime is spending time in Stuart's comic store.
Small Business Awards with 702 and Sage One nominee Joe Do Carmo, a huge fan of Big Bang Theory, loved comics from childhood and now owns Smallville Comics.
Established in 2005, Smallville Comics gives their customers variety from Superheroes to movies, music and collector’s items.
The store provides comic books, action figures, graphic novels, t-shirts, statues, collectables, hot wheels, board games, DVDs, signed certified comics and sport memorabilia.
Smallville Comics runs projects annually. One of the most popular projects, “Free Comic Book Day”, takes place every year on 1 May. On this day Smallville Comics hands out free comics to anyone who visits the store.
Smallville Comics was nominated by one of their ardent customers, Chris Gough.
Chris started purchasing his comic books from Smallville Comics in April this year. He says that, when he walked into Smallville Comics for the first time, he was a little intimidated by the sheer number of comics they had available. However, a helpful and knowledgeable shop assistant soon put him at ease.
Chris says the assistant was very clued up and patient with his lack of knowledge. He says he's always greeted by name and with a smile when he goes to the store every Friday to pick up new orders.
Speaking to John Robbie (scroll down to listen to the audio), Joe says that they started with just him as sole employee and now has eight full time and part-time staff ranging from 17 to 21 years of age.
Smallville Comics has comic fans of all ages.
