Local communities urged to defeat criminality and police killings

According to a report by the South African Institute of Race Relations (SAIRR) in early 2000 the number of police killings remained above 200, in 2004 the number declined to under 100 but of late there has been an upward trend.

Speaking to 702's Xolani Gwala, ANC Gauteng Provincial Secretary Hope Papo highlighted that police officers are not just numbers they are people and form part of the community. Papa said that most disturbing to him is the fact that these police killers live amongst us.

We should be active in the community police forums and other community organizations aimed at building safe and secure communities.
